Cows Crossing the Road - Bathinda India

Posted by Scott Rippee (Fresno, United States) on 22 March 2010 in Animal & Insect.

There were several cow crossings when traveling around in India. I didn't see more than 20 cows at a time and they were kept moving pretty well so it was never too much of a wait (unlike the trains)

Thanks for the visit. Your comments, critiques, and suggestions are more than welcome!

Very nice shot ! It must be so strange to see cows treated like Gods !

@☾éline: Thanks ☾éline! I wouldn't say the cows are treated like gods there. In Hinduism they are thought of as a provider (milk) and as being sacred. I defiantly didn't consider every cow I saw there to be "living the life". It was pretty strange and interesting to see so many cows roaming around in towns.

Wow not something we see around here. Are they actually being driven down the road or are they really just roaming doing their own thing?

@Self-Indulgence: Yeah, these are being herded down the road. The roaming cows are usually off on their own and all over the place. Some are leashed to specific areas while others are doing their own thing. :)
